The analogy of the fruit. You have eaten apples, peaches, and pears, and you know that they are the products of apple trees, peach trees, and pear trees. How would you make an apple? What would you have to do first?
In the first place, you cannot make the apple, you can only produce the conditions that will allow the apple to grow. You begin with the right seed. You plant it and water it and after caring for it, you have an apple tree. You still do not have an apple. You must continue to nurture the tree and then one day you finally have an apple. The first harvest of apples may not be what you had expected. The apples may be small and not as red nor as sweet as you had hoped. You do not give up, you continue to care for the tree and eagerly hope that next year's harvest will be better. One thing you cannot do is to try to make the apples of the first harvest better. Would it not be foolish to try to make those apples bigger, or spray them with paint to make them look better? You would not try that, but you would look forward to the next harvest.
To have the fruit of the Spirit as a product in our own lives, we must first plant the right seed. The spiritual seed that we must plant is faith in Jesus Christ. When we plant the seed of faith, we begin to grow. Next, we must water the seed with the water of the Word of God. If we are faithful "gardeners," we will begin to see the fruit of the Spirit evidenced in our lives.
I have officially opened your eyes to something new. Haha! =D..
